Is Your Mind-Set? How The Power Of Your Thoughts Can Drive The Power Of Your Life

Is Your Mind, Set?

What Does It Actually Mean For Your Success?

If you look in the dictionary, you will find a looooooong list of definitions for mindset, mind, and set.

Ironically, all the definitions come before success! (Both alphabetically and in reality!)

"Mind-set" are beliefs that directly affect somebody's attitude, so we are talking about a set of beliefs or a way of individual thinking that can determine somebody's behavior and outlook on life.

The definition of "Mind" is the hub of thought and memory and the centre of consciousness.

It generates:

  • Thoughts
  • Feelings
  • Ideas
  • Perceptions
as well as storing everyone's knowledge and memories.....Nothing new so far, right?

"Set" refers to one's focus on something, or to focus on a goal or task - "had set his mind on it."

While this is not a lesson in definitions, and maybe it actually doesn't matter how you spell "Mindset", what actually does matter is how to understand what mindset is, if you wish to be successful.

(The spelling is less important than the understanding of just how critical your mindset is to you)

Success starts with mindset, and it needs to be the right one.

Every day we have choices to make. Life is all about the abundance of choices!

We choose between right and wrong, good and evil. Being positive or negative...Even between a roast dinner cooked at home versus a Carvery!

The path of life is littered with choices.....and while it's important to choose the right path to success, it often only lights the way when we make some wrong choices.

Let's Think about the impact of mindset for a second...

Tomorrow morning you wake up and tell yourself, "I am soooo tired this morning, this is going to be one very long day." ....Where do you think your energy level is going to be? Yup, you guessed it, tired! You have already told your mind what to feel and what to expect from the day....!

On the flip side, say you woke up and said to yourself, "This is going to be a great day. I can't wait to get on it."  How many fires do you think you could then ignite? That's right....all of them, girl!

How we think subconsciously impacts our conscious behaviors greatly.

Psychologists call the study of this phenomenon, cognitive-behavioral science and it truly is fascinating!

It has been proven over, and over again that our internal self-talk determines our attitude, disposition, and subsequent actions. Think about the person who has said for years, "I'm great with faces but terrible with names." (My husband does this!).

The action of repeating the same command over and over do you then realise that the mind has taken this command as fact and now only concentrates on facial recognition, totally ignoring the name, as you have convinced the mind the name isn't important as you won't remember it anyway!

The Sucess Pivot

The good news is that we can change how we think.

We can retrain the mind.

Like so much in life, the mind re-training won't happen overnight; however, it is much easier than you might think!

The key is to consciously catch your negative thoughts. For example, in the scenario with names, if the person caught themselves saying they were not good with names and began listening to their inner voice saying, "I'm getting better at remembering names, I just have to concentrate." Then you can start to listen to the bylines of thought that will start to dominate over the negative outward "Default" belief.

You can use whatever trick works best for you, whether that be name association, or using the person's name in conversation right away to focus on it, or whatever makes that thought stick better than the original one.

How it can bring you success.......

World-class athletes will visualize winning their race or event before they have even taken part in it.

Part of their training and preparation is visualisation of their best outcome, and it is as important to their success as their physical stamina and nutrition

Their "mental coach" is as important as their "performance coach" in their training and conditioning.

They are incredibly optimistic (which some people misunderstand as ignorance), and they have an organised mind..... and success just seems to come to them.

They have learned, usually from experience, or a mentor, that a person who is an effective thinker is more successful. By effective thinker, I mean someone who controls and leverages his or her inner voice.

This person understands the power of visualising success, of believing in themselves and believing in their clients.

Their positive self-talk enables them, it doesn't distract them.

So next time you default to a thought that disables you from visualising the win or putting a block in the path of success with a deep-set thought that simply is not true but is actually a conditioned thought, remember, the inner voice can be heard too; she is positive and she can get louder as you ignite those fires of success!
