How To Avoid A Fake Tan Faux-Pas!

Neither Shades Of Tango or Creosote Are "In" In 2021, So Here's How You Can Avoid Them!

We all know how damaging the sun's rays can be, right?

While some people will still risk developing debilitating skin conditions and melanomas for the sake of a Tan, the rest of us are crystal clear that Fake is the way to bake!

If we are completely honest....we've all had a Fake tan disaster!

From too orange, to too dark, to a tinge of green (Yes, that is a thing!) To a patchy tan, over-drying of the skin......and the very worst disaster?? A streaky Tan!

So, how do you avoid the fake tan pitfalls and get the very best experience from your summer (or any other season really) Fake Bake??

1️⃣ Choose The Right Product For You!

There are literally thousands of products on the market to give you that golden glow, however, you need to choose a product that suits your skin!
Not just in colour, but in the method of delivery too.

There are:

⭐ Creams
⭐ Moisturisers
⭐ Sprays
⭐ Mousses

To be honest, you'll probably go through them all before you find the right one for you!

The one that suits you best will be the one you stick with forever! So as long as its manageable, suits your skin type and gives you the desired result, you're good to go!

2️⃣ Get Your Skin In Top Condition!

The old adage says "You can't cover up a disaster" and the same is true with makeup and Fake Tan!

To get great tan results, you'll need your skin to be in great condition, and by this, I mean smooth and absorbant!

Here's How to achieve the best skin possible for great Fake Tan results:

⭐ HYDRATE! Super important to flush out toxins and reduce lumpy bumpy bits.

⭐ EXFOLIATE! I cannot stress how important this part is!

Exfoliating will even your skin tone, get rid of flaky skin, stimulate blood flow and assist with lymphatic drainage.

⭐ MOISTURISE! This part is crucial!! Your skin needs to be properly moisturised for the tan to be even, and its non-negotiable!

For added "Extra" choose a moisturiser that also firms your skin, for an even better result.

⭐ Don't Forget Protection!

Just because you are artificially working on a tan does not mean your skin is exempt from sun protection!

You need to be applying at least a factor 25 SPF daily, but factor 50 is preferable to eliminate the damage the sun's rays can do to your skin and overall health.

3️⃣ Is The Tan Shade Important?

Well, this one is personal!

If you prefer a sun-kissed glow with a hint of Ibiza sun....then you do that!

If you love the tan deep and dark, then you go for that!

The rules are really quite movable depending on preference, and some people really do love the extreme tan look!

Shades to avoid are:

➡️ Orange....Obviously!
➡️ Oilive tones if you are fair skinned
➡️ Light tones if you are olive skinned
➡️ Yellow tones wherever possible
➡️ Shades that look way to dark, as they're likely to darken further!

The Bottom 'Tan Line' (see what I did there?!)

Fake Tanning is NOT an easy thing to get right, however, saving your skin and health from hours starfishing in the sweltering heat or time on human cookers (sorry, sunbeds) by Fake Tanning instead really is the key point here.

Choose the right product for you, and this is down to preference and skin type, and you will probably go through them all before you decide on which one is right for you.

Start small with a gradual tan (sun drops) in your regular moisturiser and see how you go....you can increase the number of drops to deepen the tan.
If you love that, you could stick with it or move onto another method.

Whatever way you choose to glow (sorry, couldn't resist!) Make sure your skin is in the best condition with no dry bits and no patches the tan can sit.

The Tango'ed look is still not in vogue, but neither is the patchwork quilt look either 😉

  1. I've never used fake tan but recently started using a tinted/tan (but really, really fair) face moisturizer to help me have a bit of colour. I don't tan naturally at all, just burn so the fake way sounds like it's a good idea! Thanks for sharing! | Mollt @ transatlanticnotes.com
